Schroth Method Therapy: Scoliosis Specific Exercise

Schroth Method Therapy

The Schroth Method is a physical therapy approach as a nonsurgical option for scoliosis treatment. It uses exercises customized for each patient to return the curved spine to a more natural position. The goal of Schroth exercises is to de-rotate, elongate and stabilize the spine in a three-dimensional plane. It may be used in combination with bracing for optimal outcomes.

Schroth Method Therapy is recommended as an option to treat scoliosis when:

Cobb angle <10, with a family history or with any clinical signs present: Welcome at any age for 1-2 visits for education and basic training
Cobb angle of 15-55 degrees: Treatment course will vary based on treatment plan and severity for:
Girls ages 10 years of age or older
Boys ages 12 years of age or older
Adults with scoliosis or kyphosis without pain
Cobb angles of 60 degrees should work with their orthopedic medical team to develop an appropriate plan
